Mother Breastfeeds on Toilet, Internet Freaks.

Any parent or anyone who’s seen a parent in action knows that once your little one starts walking, privacy is a thing of the past. A woman was sitting on the toilet when her little one came in, opened the bathroom cabinet to make a mess, then latched on to her mother and started feeding. Dad took a photo, posted it on instagram, and it went viral.

Parenting- never a dull moment.

Parenting- never a dull moment.

And of course, people freaked out. The photo was met half with disgust and calls of bad parenting, and half of “been there!” comments. The thing is, women are expected to breastfeed in public restrooms all the time because the act of simply feeding a child is seen as “indecent.” So who cares what she does in her own home?

I don’t know if I would have shared the picture myself, but if that was me I’d have definitely at least snapped a photo for me! It’s hilarious.

The mother, Elisha Beach, said “I just wanted to show people real-life like this is what my daily life looks like. I just see so many moms doubting what they do every day or feeling judged, and it’s like the media doesn’t really portray what motherhood is,” she said. It doesn’t get much more real than that!

The photo went so viral that a doctor weighed in. Mary Jane Minkin, M.D., a clinical professor of ob-gyn at Yale School of Medicine, said that no germs are coming in contact with the child since they would be only touching the mother. “The act of going to the bathroom while feeding your baby isn’t unhealthy for him [or her] because the germs from your bodily fluids aren’t jumping out of the toilet,” says Minkin.

So there you have it, folks. In a world where we are okay with breasts only if they’re sexualized and only okay with breastfeeding if it’s done in public restrooms, Elisha Beach is one woman who won’t give in and hide herself. You go, Mama.
