“Role Models, Not Runway Models”

If you’ve ever seen American Horror Story, you’re familiar with Jamie Brewer. She’s an actress, advocate for others with disabilities,  and is about to be the first model with down syndrome to walk at New York Fashion Week! I’ve loved Brewer since season one of AHS, she’s a phenomenal actress who brings so much to the show.

She’ll be walking for Carrie Hammer as part of  her “Role Models Not Runway Models” campaign wearing a dress designed with her and AHS in mind. This is so great. Hammer doesn’t treat her models who have disabilities as a gimmick, she treats them like the real, beautiful women they are.

Too often, women with disabilities are overlooked. They are seen as asexual, unattractive beings when nothing can be further from the truth. They have the femininity taken from their identity, their personalities ignored. That’s why it’s so important Brewer is paving the way this NYFW.

“Young girls and even young women…[see me] and say ‘hey, if she can do it so can I,” Brewer told Today.

Jamie Brewer is a beautiful, talented, and kind hearted woman. She is now a role model and a runway model, and will continue to inspire people from all walks of life. Love you, Jamie!
